I got into software by debugging. Holding a system in your head, tracing where the actual state diverged from what you assumed. I still build things to see what breaks, and I mostly end up on the systems side: data consistency, background jobs, making sure a retried job doesn't run twice.

Most of what I know about enterprise software came from here. Client specs arrive half-formed, and most of the job is turning vague requirements into contracts that hold. I started on the frontend and drifted into backend work because that is where the interesting problems were.

Scalable e-commerce system

Order and inventory writes run inside transactions, with consistency boundaries made explicit rather than implied.
BullMQ jobs are retry-safe and idempotent. A retried job cannot double-apply.

Moving a card normalizes positions inside a single database transaction, not on the client.
Authorization is enforced in the query, not just at the route guard, so tasks cannot leak across workspaces.

Real-time inventory system
A limited-inventory reservation system that provably cannot oversell under concurrent load.
Reservations use PostgreSQL transactions with pessimistic locking, so two users hitting the last item cannot both succeed.
A 100-user race test verifies that exactly one reservation succeeds for a single available item.

Real-time chat client
A Next.js chat client built against an external REST and Socket.io API.
Pagination and cache merging handle a documented off-by-one in the API without leaking the quirk into UI code.
Messages send through the socket only. Pending, sent, and failed states reconcile from a single source of truth.
